The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is a de facto state in northern Cyprus recognized only by Turkey. The United Nations recognizes the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over the whole island.

Funds to pay for local government were withheld and services like the post broke down during the anarchy. The U. N. peace-keeping forces installed did not reopen the post offices, so a local postal service was set up by the Turkish Cypriots using the abandoned post offices and their existing stocks of Republic of Cyprus stamps. A special hand stamp was created on January 6, 1964 for use in all the area; the double ring cancel reads KIDRIS TURK POSTALARI(Cyprus Turkish Postal Services) with the fixed date of 6.1.64, in the center is the crescent and star symbol of Turkey. I haven't found any info on how long the hand stamp was in use,
