Flag of Somalia

Somalia, formerly known as the Somali Democratic Republic, is a coastal nation in East Africa. Continentally, it is entirely surrounded by Ethiopia and Djibouti on the north and mid-west, and Kenya on its south-west; with the Gulf of Aden on its east. It currently exists solely in a de jure capacity. Somalia has no recognized central government authority, no national currency, nor any other feature associated with an established nation state. De facto authority resides in the hands of the governments for the unrecognized entities of Somaliland, Puntland, and other rival warlords.

SoS Signal April 2005--Somalia

Lou wrote: The reason it is not on the site is that it is not a real stamp. It was/is a spurious issue from one of several European printers who still create very pretty unauthorized designs as purported issues for various countries, catering to gullible topical collectors.  I wrote about this issue in the April 2005 SOS Signal (see attached). I still do not consider this a "Cinderella" issue, as most "Cinderellas" were not produced to defraud the buyer or hurt legitimate stamp issuers. But I finally did buy the s/s for $2.00, and over the years since, I have added some other spurious SoS "issues" into a little mini-collection, some because of an interesting design and some for their humorous errors like the one depicting the wrong Rowland Hill.
