Wikipedia is a Web-based, free-content

195 independent language editions sponsored by the non-profit Wikimedia
Foundation. Entries on traditional encyclopedic topics exist alongside
those on almanac, gazetteer and current events topics. Its
purpose is to create and distribute, worldwide, a free encyclopedia in as many
languages as possible. Wikipedia is one of the most popular reference
sites on the Web (receiving around 50 million hits per day).
Information please has been providing authoritative answers to all kinds of factual questions since 1938—first as a popular radio quiz show, then starting in 1947 as an annual almanac, and since 1998 on the Internet at www.infoplease.com. Many things have changed since 1938, but not our dedication to providing reliable information, in a way that engages and entertains.
