delayed in production, and not released with the stamp set. Its first day of
issue was November 25, 1961, and the frugal Maldivian post office made
first day covers using the large envelopes prepared for the original
issue date, without changing the date of issue inscription. The s/s is also
imprinted with the wrong issue date, so a fdc
scan should be added to sites with revised issue date info to disprove Scott's
wrong issue date used on all Club databases (except mine).

The
identifiable stamp fits into my "Design Component" category as it
reproduces only the stamped envelope from Maldives Sc #921-3. This is another
odd choice, as the Maldives #5 on an airmail envelope is a grievous
designer error for many reasons: the colonial stamp of 1906 was
withdrawn from use and had no franking value and even if it was valid, it would
not pay for airmail service--and, from a collector's standpoint, it would be a
waste of a scarce, valuable stamp!

Guadagno wrote: The individual German stamps you show are not the stamps
reproduced in the margin of the S/S. Note they are a se tenant
block, so instead of the stamps of 1935, they are a "cut out" of one
of the Olympic S/S issued in 1936--Sc #B91, see scan. The sheets
had very large margins and were delicate, so the blocks of stamps from
damaged sheets were "rescued", also in 1936, S/S were still a bit of
a novelty and many collectors removed the stamp blocks so they would fit in their
albums and on covers. You find the cut out blocks offered from time to
time on eBay and Delcampe.
