sos bangladesh fdc 1971

Lou Wrote: I noticed something unusual about the first day cover used in the design of the 2021 Golden Jubilee of the First Bangladesh Stamps issue - on the SoS none of the eight stamps are cancelled. When a cover is illustrated on a SoS, I try to find a matching scan to add to my own database files (and sometimes, to my actual SoS collection). All 1971 covers I found on-line had the stamps cancelled, so either the designer found the odd cover used, or more likely, photoshopped the cover, so that the small stamp images wouldn't be obscured. Scott's has yet to give this issue a catalog #.

Lou wrote: Bangladesh, on November 16, 2021 issued an imperf souvenir sheet to honor the "Contributions of Foreigners in the Liberation War" of 1971.  Within hours, the embarrassed postal authorities withdrew the issue from sale, as they had not noticed the designer had neglected to include the country name, Bangladesh in the very busy artwork. No sales figures were announced, but some mint s/s and FDCs were sold before the withdrawal, and are now being offered on the internet at a premium.

This is a SoS, as included in the design is a photo of the first Bangladesh stamps (Sc #1-8) being shown to the public. This same photo, with the stamps colorized, was used as the design of the Bangladesh Stamp Day 2020 issue.

No date was publicized, but a corrected design was soon issued and the covers with the revised s/s have the original November 16 cancel.
